- For the first time, Amazon is bringing Key for Business to German housing companies
- A free, contactless and flexible delivery service for LEG tenants – the special pilot project will begin in time before the Christmas season in 251 buildings in Dusseldorf and Monheim am Rhein
During COVID-19, contactless and safe package delivery is an issue that is becoming more and more important to people – and will therefore be especially welcome in the pre-Christmas period. With this in mind, Amazon and the housing company LEG have today signed a cooperation agreement to bring Amazon’s innovative Key for Business access system to Germany. In December, Amazon will be installing virtual building keys in 251 apartment buildings in Dusseldorf and Monheim as part of its initial pilot phase for Germany. The launch of Key for Business will allow Amazon drivers to deliver packages into customers’ buildings – safely and contactlessly – while at the same time enabling greater flexibility for customers to receive their deliveries.
Key for Business is activated through a module that will be installed at the entrance to each building. It allows Amazon packages to be delivered safely and securely inside the building so tenants can conveniently pick them up from their doorstep, package room, lobby, or other location designated by the customer, property owner, or building manager. This is because it generates a virtual key in the Amazon delivery app that allows drivers to enter the building for which they have a delivery. Access expires after the parcel has been delivered. The cooperation means that LEG can achieve multiple benefits for its customers at once:
- The attractive additional service is free for customers.
- Flexible deliveries at any time according to recipient’s wishes.
- Enable social distancing with a contactless delivery option for residents.
“Every day we strive to improve residential comfort and customer experience. We are very pleased that with the Key for Business system, we can use an innovative solution that makes it significantly easier for our customers to receive deliveries – and with the added safety of being contact-free,” said Laura Wagener, Head of LEG’s Operational Optimisation and Projects department.
With around 145,000 rental properties and approximately 400,000 residents, LEG is one of Germany’s leading listed housing companies. The company has seven branch offices in North Rhine-Westphalia, providing personal local contact. LEG generated income of around EUR 809 million from its core rental and lease business in the 2019 financial year. As part of the new construction campaign it launched in 2018, LEG wishes to make a social contribution towards creating both privately financed and publicly subsidised housing, and to build or acquire at least 500 new apartments per year from 2023 onwards.
